KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES OF ADOLESCENTS ABOUT SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES AND CONTRACEPTIVES IN MARINGÁ - PR

The incidence of STDs / AIDS has increased in general population. The number of infected adolescents is higher each time. Despite campaigns that are carried out to prevent adolescent pregnancy, each year, one in thirteen sexually active adolescents engraver. This study has evaluated the knowledge and attitudes of teenagers of Maringá-PR about contraceptive methods and the prevention of sexually transmissible diseases. Thus, a questionnaire consisting of multiple choice and discursive questions was applied to 69 adolescents aged from 12 to 19 years. Results demonstrate that male condom contraceptive method is the most cited by adolescents and that they still confer the responsibility for contraception to females. The percentage of adolescents that do not know what STD means is high (36.2%). The concept of contraception method and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases is confused among the adolescents. The study confirms the complexity of contraceptive methods among teenagers and shows the need of educational programs that incorporate the multiple dimensions of the problem to take effect.

ER -
