FROM THE PEDAGOGICAL PROJECT TO THE COMPETENCIES DEVELOPMENT: A Case Study in an Undergraduate Business Administration Course from a Brazilian University

This paper aims to analyse students’ competency-based formation in a given undergraduate Business Administration Course. The case study involved nine student classes from a Brazilian university, and started by verifying the correspondence between the competencies defined by the Education Ministry and those proposed by that Course Pedagogical Project. The students’ perception of both the competencies developed and the teaching-learning process was also investigated, taking assumptions about competency-formation into consideration. The quantitative-descriptive method was used for data collection and analysis. The collection instrument was a structured questionnaire, which was answered by 240 students enrolled in the last semester of their studies. In theoretical terms, it was sought to characterize a model for the students’ competency-based formation. Results point to a partial convergence of the Pedagogical Project with the National Curriculum Guidelines on the definition of the competencies to be formed. On the other hand, it was demonstrated that students have realized that most of the competencies and skills proposed by the Course and/or by the Education Ministry were, indeed, developed. In relation to the teaching-learning process, it was clear that not all assumptions for the model investigated have been incorporated, which shows that the course investigated is poorly adhering to students’ competency-formation.

ER -
